Crescendo
Corner of Plains & Waterdown Roads, Burlington, Canada Crescendo in music represents a gradual increase in loudness. In general terms, it refers to a build up to reach a point of great intensity, force, or volume. The angled tubes gradually increase in length and height and follow a twisting motion to create a rising and culminating wave. With this design, I maintain water as a central motif in the piece. The sculpture’s converging and diverging shape represents a hub of activity in the community. These characteristics serve to represent contemporary as well as historical context of Aldershot Village. The wave shape reflects connection to the lake in the neighborhood, water as an essential vehicle for initial progress of this community, and ultimately the connection to the Alex Brown’s wharf where it all began. Reference to music connects the sculpture to this neighborhood’s modern waterfront music events, as well as to the historical music and relaxation places such as La Salle Dancing Pavilion. |
